Here's what I have enjoyed listening to, reading and watching on sustainability over the past month:

Clearing the Air: A Hopeful Guide to Solving Climate Change

  • The ever excellent Hannah Ritchie from Our World in Data has a new book out with 50 questions and answers on climate. I read it last week and would definitely recommend getting a copy link. Similarly her first book 'Not the End of the World', which is her take on a wider set of sustainability issues. And if you'd like even more of Ms Ritchie in your life then she co-hosts the excellent podcast, 'Solving for Climate', where there have been fascinating recent editions on both China's climate leadership and aeroplane contrails link.

The extraordinary rise of electric cars in developing countries

  • The moment over the past month when I've been most intrigued and encouraged about our progress on the energy transition was undoubtedly listening to this edition of Bloomberg's Zero podcast with Akshat Rathi. Fascinating insights including the news that in 2025 China will sell more electric cars than the USA will sell cars in total - Wow! link

The trouble with 'carbon neutral' - and what comes next

  • On our Carbon Literacy course (see links below if you're interested) we dig into what it means to commit to being Net Zero and the problems with less specific claims like 'carbon neutral', so it was great to hear to authorities on this subject, Joel Makower and Solitaire Townsend tackle this very question on their podcast 'Two Steps Forward' link. And if you want more on this topic then Trellis Group, co-founded by Joel, published this excellent article starting 'RIP, carbon neutral' link

ISO and GHG Protocol to merge GHG accounting standards

  • The integration of sustainability standards is an important industry trend so it was great to read on edie this update on the progress with confirming a single coherent framework for emissions reporting link

Trump delivers dumbest climate speech of all time

  • I was going to ignore and not make reference to President Trump's recent speech to the UN but I then saw this excellent article by the HEATED team and had to include it link. If you don't follow HEATED on Substack then I really recommend that you do.
