Top 5 Sustainability Resources | 2025 round up
Instead of my usual monthly update highlighting standout sustainability content, and because everyone loves an end-of-year roundup, I’m sharing my Top 5 sustainability resources for 2025.
It’s been a challenging year for sustainability professionals, but these recommendations have consistently inspired, informed and entertained me. If any of them are new to you, they’re well worth exploring over the festive period, perhaps while enjoying a mince pie, or as an alternative to watching Home Alone for the umpteenth time.
Best Film: Ocean with David Attenborough
I saw Ocean with David Attenborough at the cinema back in the spring and found it inspiring, informative and entertaining in equal measure. It may well be the best work David Attenborough has ever produced.
The cinematography is awe-inspiring, and few viewers will fail to be moved by the shocking scenes of bottom trawling. Thankfully, the film also delivers a powerful and hopeful message. A Disney+ subscription is now required to watch the full documentary, although short clips are available on YouTube.
Best Book: Clearing the Air by Hannah Ritchie
2025 wasn’t a standout year for new sustainability books, but I thoroughly enjoyed Clearing the Air by Hannah Ritchie. In her second book, she tackles 50 key questions on climate change, offering the same clear, concise and data-driven insights that made her first book, Not the End of the World, so compelling.
Best Podcast: Zero from Bloomberg Green
I listen to a lot of podcasts while walking, running and cycling, and there were plenty of contenders this year. However, the award goes to Akshat Rathi and the Bloomberg Green team for Zero, which consistently delivers thought-provoking, informative and highly topical episodes on climate, energy and sustainability.
Best Website: Our World in Data
The Our World in Data team produce an outstanding range of data, analysis and visualisations, not just on sustainability, but across global development more broadly. Their charts, graphs and tables are beautifully presented and incredibly useful.
Whatever your sustainability topic of interest, you’ll find resources that help you understand complex issues and communicate them more effectively. A recent highlight is their work on tracking progress against the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is a real tour de force.
Best Short Video: Motherf**ing Windfarms* with Samuel L Jackson
In a year when many sustainability professionals may feel worn down by pushback and negativity around ESG and sustainability, it was refreshing to see this short, fun and unapologetically positive video from Vattenfall.
Having Samuel L Jackson on your side is a powerful reminder that the transition to clean energy still has strong advocates, even when it feels like the world is turning against you.
