Bernard’s early career as an economist and a consuming interest in politics and international affairs have underpinned a successful career in corporate affairs, reputation management and marketing. Spanning board and executive level positions at two FTSE 100 plcs, the UK’s largest car company and international companies BMW and Bosch, Bernard has gained extensive experience in reputation management, risk issues and the odd crisis. More recently he has been an accomplished entrepreneur and consultant across a wide spectrum of business, industry and the public sector. A proven non-executive and trustee he has served on the CBI council, the board of the SMMT, chaired the advisory council of the German-British Forum, worked on several government committees and with many major arts organisations.
In 2010, after completing the CIPR Diploma and teaching certificate, Bernard took up lecturing in PR and Marketing, since when, alongside his consultancy work, he has lectured at six UK universities at masters and degree level, and taught CIPR courses at several teaching centres.
In his spare time, Bernard is an avid (but useless) gardener, watches cricket at Taunton, and sits outside the Ship Inn in Teignmouth harbour “watching the river run into the sea, and sometimes the other way round”.
