The next generation of sustainability professionals is ready
This is what Nigel has been listening to and reading across the sustainability spectrum over the past month:
The next generation of sustainability professionals is ready — and they're watching us
I always enjoy listening to two of our industry leaders, Solitaire Townsend and Joel Makower on their 'Two Steps Forward' podcast, but given our shared interest in the development of the next generation of sustainability leaders, I was particularly taken by their conversation with three young professionals in this space link.
It’s time to ditch the term ‘stakeholder engagement’
The piece that made me think most this month was the Trellis Group article by Alison Taylor on whether or not the sustainability's profession frequent reference to and reliance on the concept of 'stakholder engagement' is at all useful. Alison argues persuasively that the term is too vague and doesn't represent diverse and sometimes conflicting interests. I recommend you read and reflect on her article and see whether your stakeholder activities still bear up under scrutiny link.
What does China’s new Five-Year Plan mean for the climate?
A lot of focus over the past year on what is or isn't happening on the climate and sustainability agenda has been focused on the US and the pronouncements and action of the Trump administration, but arguably what is going on in China, especially regarding the energy transition and climate tech, is more important. This Chatham House Environment and Society 'Climate Briefing' podcast summarises neatly what is in China's new five-year plan link. And if you want more on China then I would also recommend the BBC 'The Climate Question' podcast on 'China's green energy revolution' link.
Is cutting methane the quick way to cool the planet?
On our Cambridge Marketing College 'Get Carbon Literate' one-day course, we discuss the opportunities to mitigate the full suite of greenhouse gases, not just carbon dioxide, so I am always interested in new resources and perspectives on how to tackle methane emissions. This BBC 'The Climate Question' podcast (their second name check this month!) does a great job of highlighting the challenge and opportunity on methane link.
What does this actually look like when you’re a supplier on the receiving end of all those requests?
I always enjoy the interviews and conversations Tom Idle and Oliver Hurrey have on 'The Scope 3 Podcast', but I thought the insights shared by and discussed with John Hale about operating in corporate supply chains as an SME were particularly pertinent to the Scope 3 debate link.
