Course overview

Students will develop an understanding of the function of Marketing, the elements of the Marketing Mix and how these can be applied to meet customer needs. The course gives students an understanding of how customer behaviour can enable effective targeting, how external environmental influences affect planning and decision making and the importance of marketing's role in driving success and delivering results.


The award usually takes 6 months to complete. This Award forms part of the CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing or can be studied as a standalone CIM Award.

Entry criteria

  • A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline or 2+ years’ experience in a sales or marketing role.

  • External environmental influences and decision making based on environmental auditing
  • Applying the Marketing Mix to address market and customer needs

Assessment: Assessment is by a 2 hour multiple-choice exam containing 50 questions to be completed in a controlled environment.
